As an Irish sim racing content creator, I’ve spent the last 10 years chasing precision, performance, and immersion. Whether it's a ranked iRacing session or a late-night Assetto Corsa cruise, my passion for sim racing runs deep, and my gear has to keep up.

That’s why I’ve been using Simagic for the past four years.

Starting Out with Alpha Mini

I got my first Simagic wheelbase, the Alpha Mini, about four years ago, and I’ll be honest: it left a mark! That base wasn’t just strong, it was responsive, intuitive, and most of all, consistent. It gave me the feedback I needed to grow my race craft, and to this day, it still feels like home. The Alpha Mini is an absolute unit, and it will always have a special place in my heart.

The Jump to EVO Pro

Recently, I upgraded to the new EVO Pro base, and I have to say, it’s on another level.

Even compared to the already fantastic Alpha series and the Alpha U I previously owned before it, the EVO Pro is faster, smoother, and cleaner. Details feel more alive. Torque delivery is razor-sharp, but never aggressive. It's no wonder why it's been compared to some of the top of the line wheelbases in the world in reviews of it.

I’ve been testing it across iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and recently, Le Mans Ultimate, and in every sim, the EVO Pro just feels right. It adapts instantly, with that signature Simagic sauce: precise, grounded, immersive.

For me, great gear isn’t about force, it’s about flow. Simagic gear lets me focus entirely on my driving. I don’t have to think about my hardware. I just drive.

My Settings for EVO Pro

If there’s one lesson I’d share, it’s this — don’t be afraid to tweak.

Really sitting down and toying with my base has allowed me to reach my best, and I hope it can for you too. We all have our own journey, and part of mine, was I loved the feel of a raw, violent force feedback. But I quickly found that, similar to Romeo and Juliet, I was in love with the *idea* of being quick with a raw style of force feedback, but wasn't actually getting quick with it:

I asked for advice from the Simagic community, made some changes to smoothing and damping, and I'll never forget, finally being able to soar over the kerbs at Imola like the pros in a GT3 car, and having a race at a level I didn't know I could. Still took a lot of practice, but learning how to optimize your wheelbase takes time.

It's a constant dance between what you think is right, and what works. And after time, you find you keep coming back to the same settings. That’s when you’re truly connected to the car.

As for "Other Effects" in SimPro, I leave these off entirely as shown here:

Looking Back — and Forward

Being a Simagic ambassador means I get to share what I already believed,  that great sim racing gear doesn’t just follow your inputs, it inspires your confidence, and can truly be competitively priced.

And while the EVO Pro might be my new daily driver, the Alpha Mini still sits proudly in the background of all my videos. It was my first real step into pro-grade sim racing, and even now, it’s still as strong, reliable, and fun to drive as day one.

So long story short, don't be afraid to play with the settings in SimPro, even if it goes against the grain temporarily. It can sometimes bring you to a level of performance you didn't know you could put out.

Here’s to more laps, more battles, and more races where the gear disappears, and all that’s left is you, the car, and the perfect lap.

Vamos!
